Roy Cohn was more entertaining

Roy Cohn was way more entertaining than the new documentary about Roy Cohn.

He was a driving force in Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s hearings searching for communists in the government in the 1950s, the lawyer for both the Gambino and Genovese crime families and he was briefly engaged to Barbara Walters while being secretly gay. The dude also had a collection of toy frogs!

Yet the new documentary “Where’s My Roy Cohn?” is mostly interested in the New York lawyer’s work and friendship with Donald Trump (before Trump was president). Even the title is an old quote of Trump’s. While it makes sense that audiences would want to know more about this brash enigma and his connection to the future commander in chief, that’s also the most boring part of the movie.

Some fantastic tidbits are revealed in the otherwise straightforward film, though. If you’ve seen “Angels in America,” in which the Cohn character was a sleazy comic villain, you’d be surprised to find out that he was friends with Andy Warhol. But while we learn a few fun facts, we get no insight into them. Where’s my better Roy Cohn documentary?
