Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev for title

Another Grand Slam down, one more to go.

Second-seeded Rafael Nadal put the finishing touches on his 19th major championship — but it didn’t come easy — by defeating fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 in the US Open men’s final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. The match lasted 4 hours and 51 minutes, the second longest final in US Open history.

It marks Nadal’s fourth US Open crown and second in the past three years. The title moves him within one of Roger Federer’s record for Grand Slam championships, which the 33-year-old Nadal could reach next June at the French Open. Nadal has won a record 12 times at Roland-Garros.
