How Antonio Brown went from NFL star to unemployed

After 13 days, Antonio Brown is no longer a Patriot.

The New England franchise releasing the star wideout is the culmination of months of erratic and bizarre behavior that has seen him go through three teams, numerous run-ins with the law and at least one ongoing civil suit for sexual harassment.

Here is how Brown went from one of the NFL’s biggest stars to having his future up in the air:

January 2017

Brown secretly streamed the Steelers’ post-game celebration after a playoff win over the Kansas City Chiefs, in violation of league policy. He was reportedly fined $10,000 for the stunt.

October 2018

Brown was named in a civil lawsuit alleging that he tossed furniture off the balcony of his 14-story apartment in Sunny Isles, Florida, narrowly missing a 22-month-old boy.

November 2018

Brown was cited for reckless driving outside of Pittsburgh, where he was clocked speeding more than 100 mph just hours before the Steelers took on the Carolina Panthers.

February

The mother of one of Brown’s children told police in Florida that the wideout pushed her to the ground after she wouldn’t let him close the front door. NFL officials at the time promised to investigate the incident, which did not end in Brown’s arrest.

July

Celebrity chef Stefano Tedeschi sued Brown in Florida over an unpaid tab of $38,521. An attorney for Brown declined to comment on the allegations, but said the NFL star would contest them.

July

Brown showed up to Raiders’ training camp in a hot-air balloon after signing a restructured contract including $30 million in guaranteed money. Despite the dramatic arrival, Brown claimed he was unable to practice due to frostbite on his feet from getting cryotherapy in France.

August

Brown’s former personal trainer, Sean Pena, sued Brown for $7,194 for unpaid services. An attorney for Brown insisted to TMZ that Pena was paid in full.

Sept. 4

A frustrated Brown posted on Instagram a letter from Oakland general manager Mike Mayock notifying him of more than $53,000 in fines due to missing practices over not being able to wear his old helmet.

Sept. 7

The Raiders cut ties with Brown before he ever played a game for the team. The move came just hours after Brown demanded his release in a heavily produced video. Hours after his release became official, he signed with the Patriots on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million.

Sept. 10

Brown’s former trainer, Britney Taylor, filed a federal lawsuit in Florida alleging that Brown raped and sexually assaulted her in 2017 and 2018.

Sept. 14

Helmet maker Xenith cut ties with Brown after the sexual assault allegations became public.

Sept. 15

Brown made his Patriots debut in a Week 2 win over the Dolphins in Miami. He finished with four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Sept. 19

Nike dropped Brown from its portfolio of athletes, terminating his shoe deal.

Sept. 20

Brown was accused of sending “intimidating texts” to an artist who says Brown of sexually harassing her in 2017. Within hours, he was released by the Patriots after just 13 days with the team.
