In his third start back from the injured list, CC Sabathia came up hobbled again.
The lefty exited Friday’s game against the Athletics after just three innings, in which he had given up just one run on 48 pitches. The Yankees did not immediately announce a reason for his departure, though TV replays showed Sabathia looking to be in discomfort after a pitch in the third inning.
Sabathia had lasted just seven innings across his first two starts back from the injured list, which was his third IL stint of the season. The most recent two were for inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee.
The only run Sabathia gave up Friday came on Jurickson Profar’s solo home run in the second inning. Luis Cessa replaced him to start the fourth inning.
