Matt Harvey was really nervous for his minor league start

The Dark Knight rose for one night.

Matt Harvey turned in a strong performance in his first start for the Athletics’ Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate on Saturday. The former Met, who signed a minor league deal with Oakland last week, allowed just two hits and struck out five over four scoreless innings in the Aviators’ 6-5 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes.

“I was pretty nervous,” Harvey told 8 News Now, CBS’s affiliate in Las Vegas. “I haven’t been nervous in a while for a game, but I think I texted my dad or somebody and was like, man I’m actually pretty nervous for this.”

Harvey was released by the Angels on July 21 after going 7-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 24 starts. He is now trying to earn a return to the majors for an A’s team that is 1 ½ games out of the second AL wild-card. The one-time Mets ace hasn’t truly rediscovered his Dark Knight form since having thoracic outlet surgery in 2016.

“You want to do so well,” Harvey said. “You want to get back to where I was and if not, figure out the best way of being successful with what I have at the present time.”
