Jessica Mendoza missed ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcast from San Francisco because the analyst was in a car accident Friday.
Mendoza, who is also a Mets’ baseball operations adviser, had her car rear-ended at full speed while driving on the Southern California freeway, according to USA Today. She is expected to return to the air next week after missing the Giants-Phillies game Sunday.
Ben Cafardo, ESPN communications director, tweeted about the incident Sunday night. He wrote that Mendoza is in recovery after a “scary ordeal” and that he hopes to see her in Williamsport, Pa., next week for the Little League Classic game between the Cubs and Pirates.
“Ever a champ, she made every effort to be in the booth tonight but the much better decision was to rest and recover with her family,” Cafardo wrote.
ESPN did not replace Mendoza in the booth, leaving Matt Vasgersian and Alex Rodriguez on the call with on-field reporter Buster Olney on vacation.
