North Korea says test missile launch was a ‘solemn warning’

North Korea said on Thursday that it test fired two ballistic missiles over the ocean as a “solemn warning” over South Korea’s weapons development and expected military drills.

The country’s state media also claimed that the projectiles were “a new-type tactical guided weapon” and attributed the revelation to leader Kim Jong Un.

The message was directed to “South Korean military warmongers,” the statement said.

North Korea is reportedly agitated over the South Korea’s planned military exercises with the US, claiming the drills prove the south’s hostility toward Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.

The missiles fired Wednesday flew 267 miles over the Pacific Ocean.

The launch was North Korea’s first since the historic border meeting and handshake between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim, where the two agreed to resume nuclear talks.

Despite the agreement, North Korea-US nuclear talks haven’t picked up steam.

Following the missile launch, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the two sides to quickly resume their dialogue.
