The Mets’ new advertisements couldn’t have come at a worse time.
With just three weeks until the Mets’ annual Pride Night, when a portion of ticket sales will be donated to LGBTQ causes, Chick-fil-A signs appeared on the Citi Field foul poles before Tuesday’s first game of the team’s series with the Padres.
Chick-fil-A ownership’s anti-LGBTQ stance has made headlines and caused national boycotts of the franchise — but none big enough to prevent the Wilpon family from reaping the financial benefits that could come from the partnership.
Citi Field personnel were expecting backlash from fans whose sight lines might have been obstructed by the orange and white vertical ads. But with the team struggling so many unused seats in the upper deck, fans were able to shift around to avoid any obstructed views.
