The father of K-pop star Samuel was found “beaten to death” in his home Tuesday morning in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, authorities said.
Jose Arredondo, 58, who is renowned as the owner of a car dealership in Bakersfield, California, was discovered dead with “signs of blunt force trauma,” police revealed on Wednesday.
“Sad news,” Francisco Duran, a fan of Arredondo’s, wrote on Facebook.
“I was thinking about quitting Bakersfield College back in 1995 when I saw him on TV. He was encouraging kids to stay in school. He changed my mind about quitting.”
Police were looking for a suspect in the killing.
Samuel, 17, was born in Los Angeles as Kim Samuel and currently resides in South Korea. On Nov. 16, 2017, he released his first full-length album called “Eye Candy.”
Arredondo was well-known in and around Bakersfield for working his way up from poverty to own several local car dealerships.
A US State Department official confirmed the death of a US citizen in Cabo San Lucas and said, “We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death.”
