Instagram influencers sick after swimming in toxic ‘lake’

Influencers are risking it all for one really sick photo.

Several Instagram users fell ill after bathing in a toxic quarry in Spain — which they mistook for an Insta-friendly turquoise lake, according to local reports.

Mount Neme in Galicia draws droves of tourists each year because of its sparkling blue water reservoirs.

But the site is actually an abandoned quarry connected to a Tungsten mine, used during World War II and later abandoned.

The mesmerizing aquamarine color is caused by chemical contamination.

Still, some clueless Instagrammers have taken to jumping right into the toxic waters to get that perfect shot — and reported getting skin rashes, vomiting and other stomach problems.

One Instagrammer told the Spanish news outlet Publico, that they started throwing up and had a rash that lasted two weeks after taking a dip in the water.

Another person was hospitalized for “damage to the skin and digestive system.”

Brief exposure will likely cause eye and skin irritation — but spending more time in the contaminated pool and ingesting the toxins can result in stomach problems, vomiting and diarrhea, Manuel Ferreiro, a doctor at the University hospital in nearby A Coruña, told The Local.

But even that’s not putting off like-obsessed social-media addicts.

One influencer who got a rash told Publico: “The picture was worth it.”

A local lobbying group is calling on the regional government to limit access to the area and put up warnings about the dangers, according to The Local.

It’s not the first time Influencers have flocked to a toxic area they mistook as Insta-perfect.

Last month, a Russian company that controls a coal plant in Siberia urged people not to swim in an idyllic looking ash dump that had become a magnet for influencers.

In addition, Chernobyl selfies have become popular after the May premiere of an HBO miniseries about the 1986 power plant tragedy.
