Eli Manning is the latest Giants player to respond to Odell Beckham Jr.’s continued tirade against his former team.
“This team has not been good for the last six years,” the Browns’ new star wide receiver told GQ in a story that caused plenty of stir all the way back in New Jersey this week. “I felt like I was the main reason at keeping that brand alive. They were getting prime-time games … Why? Because people want to see the show. You want to see me play.”
Several Giants players have responded to his fiery interview, which came on the heels of highlight-reel receiver’s offseason of taking shots at ex-teammates and coaches. Beckham, who put on a show in his first practice with the Browns on Thursday, took several thinly veiled shots at Manning throughout the summer, though the veteran quarterback didn’t seem to worry much about them.
“I don’t think they bothered me,” he said on NFL Network when asked about the GQ quotes. “You just kind of shake your head and laugh. … I won a few games before he was here.”
Former Giants quarterback Kurt Warner, a Super Bowl winner in his own right, also came to his former team’s defense while sitting next to Manning for the interview.
“I think those two rings have a little bit to do why they’re on TV,” Warner said.
