De Blasio tries to goad Trump into debate about New York City

Mayor Bill de Blasio is looking for some one-on-one time with President Trump.

The mayor and long-shot presidential candidate on Thursday challenged Trump to a debate in New York during a variety show hosted by BuzzFeed at Webster Hall in the East Village.

“I challenge you, Donald Trump, to come to New York City, and I will debate you about what’s right for New York City,” an animated de Blasio declared, adding that “BuzzFeed will host it.”

“[Trump] doesn’t understand New York City,” de Blasio sneered. “And when his presidency is over, really soon, he will not be welcome back.”

Hizzoner threw down the gauntlet during the show dubbed “Internet Live,” where he and his wife Chirlaine McCray were interviewed by the website’s editor-in-chief Ben Smith.

The debate challenge came after de Blasio and Trump traded jabs over a recent slew of incidents where New York City cops were doused in water.

Thursday night’s event also included cameos by viral internet celebrities including “Old Town Road” singer Lil Nas X and Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa, as well as stars of MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”
